Any time an alarm goes off, all personnel should treat it as a real fire evacuation alarm.

When an alarm is sounded, or smoke and/or fire is visible, an immediate evacuation is necessary. Proceed calmly to the stairwell as indicated on the floor plans. (Please see below for Fire Evacuation map). If the smoke or fire is blocking your exit route, proceed to the nearest stairwell for evacuation. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS!!

The Downers Grove Fire Department classifies 2001 Butterfield Road as a high rise office building. In the event of a fire/alarm, floors will be alerted in the following manner:

  • the floor the alarm is activated on
  • the floor directly above the alarm
  • the floor directly below the alarm
  • and the 1st and 2nd floors

Only these affected floors will hear the alarm. If an alarm should sound on your floor, do not call the Management Office for verification or instructions. Please evacuate the floor immediately. The Downers Grove Fire Department will evacuate additional floors if they deem it necessary. However, if any Tenant wishes to evacuate the building they are free to do so.

Evacuation must be conducted in a calm, orderly and quiet fashion. Walk on the right hand side of the stairwell only to allow a clear path of entry for fire fighting and/or building personnel. Nothing should be taken down the stairwells that could be dropped as these items could possibly trip others attempting to evacuate.
